A colonoscopy is a way to view the entire large intestine. It can help locate the cause of issues in a part of the large intestine referred to as the colon. It is even performed to screen for colorectal cancer. A screening colonoscopy is usually recommended for anyone 50 years of age and older, and for anyone with parents, siblings, or children with a history of colorectal cancer or polyps.
